Box Office Manager and Front of House Manager, Hope Mill Theatre, Manchester
Hope Mill Theatre (The Factory of Creativity CIO, Charity Number 1183251) are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Box Office and Front of House Manager to join our small and dedicated team.
Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester is undergoing an exciting period of renewal and growth. Our Box Office & Front of House Manager team is the first point of contact for the public, visiting companies, contractors and guests at the theatre. As we adapt to changing customer habits and streamline our services, we are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial manager to lead our box office and Front of House functions.
The Box Office & Front of House Manager will lead the box office team, taking responsibility for selling tickets, memberships and events, processing reports and sales information using our box office sales system (Spektrix). They will also work with the Fundraising and Creative Learning departments to support aspects of their administration.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of box office management, and enjoy working in a lively, frequently changing environment. They will demonstrate a great attention to detail and excellent IT skills, be confident with managing data and financial information, as well as being customer focussed and able to work on their own initiative.
The Box Office and Front of House Manager is primarily responsible for the day-to-day running of the Box Office & Front of House of Hope Mill Theatre. They will work closely with the Theatre Manager and Executive Director to ensure staff and systems are in place to manage their department effectively.
Working hours/days: 35 hours per week, Generally 5 days per week includes evenings and weekend hours.
Annual Leave: 28 days pro rata including bank holidays
Salary: from £17,136.00 (35 hours per week) full time contract. Subject to relevant experience.
Reports to: Executive Director and the Theatre Manager
Set up and management of all box office activities for both produced shows and received Productions.
Managing tickets sold through third parties
Customer Service emails and phone calls.
Management, recruitment, and training of all front of house/box office staff on site.
Set up, management and problem solving of IT systems for Box Offices to function as efficiently as possible.
Working with artists, promoters, and the programming team to facilitate their ticketing requests as well as provide ticketing support and advice
In conjunction with the Technical Manager, ensure all building users are aware and trained in relevant building policies and procedures
Work with the Executive Director to promote smooth business operations including the company calendar and space scheduling, vacation schedule, contact database, and diary management.
Manage office equipment (e.g. phones, hardware, software) and support services (e.g., cleaning, waste, electrical) to ensure all needs are met including long term planning of resources, innovative ways to improve working, and effective maintenance and updating as required
Support the Executive Director on the day-to-day financial management of the company by recording income and expenditure, managing petty-cash, preparing box office reports, managing invoicing, ensuring robust financial controls, managing recharges for services provided.
Support the Executive Director in the development of strategies and policies for the Company
Ensure that all policies (such as Cultural Diversity and Access) for the Company comply with current legislation and practices, updating, communicating changes and training when required.
Manage with the Theatre Manager the Child Protection Policy for the Company, including coordination of CRB checks and the licensing for any child actors in productions. Support the Education department in ensuring that this policy is upheld throughout the activities of the Company.
Act as a First Aider (training to be given if necessary)
Support the Executive Director in all aspects of the Charities aims and objectives.
Encourage new Members of the Theatre and work with the Fundraising Manager to develop those relationships
Manage our Front of House volunteer programme including training and recruitment.
Skills and experience required:
Excellent customer service skills and experience resolving issues and handling difficult or unhappy customers, both in person and over email
Experience working in a box office and using computerised ticketing systems is essential (we use Spektrix, so experience is these would be highly regarded)
Cash handling experience
Experience managing a small team, including organising staff rotas
The ability to remain cool under pressure and work independently
Excellent numeracy skills and attention to detail

Front of House Volunteers

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be a part of our Front of House team! If you love the theatre, maybe you’ll love helping out on the box office?!
Duties will include: selling tickets, helping customers, greeting people, selling programs, ushering, etc.

As we continue to make our brand-new Hope Mill Theatre Community Hub the best it can be, we want to hear from YOU!
We’re placing our community at the heart of all decision making at the hub – through several different phases of outreach and discussion we want to make sure we are giving back to our local area in ways that are most beneficial.
We have already hosted a series of Zoom focus groups with people from our surrounding area, where we discussed the kinds of projects we can provide to best serve our community.
