TURN ON FEST COMMISSION: As British as a Watermelon
Mandla Rae scrambles to put together their life and the words they couldn’t speak out loud.
In ‘as british as a watermelon’, Mandla gives a glimpse into the life of a previously illegal human, picks apart trauma and the long-lasting effects of shame.
They become obsessed with watermelons and self-preservation in this spoken word exploration of displacement.
Supported by a New Performance Bursary from the Greater Manchester LGBT Arts + Culture Network.
TURN ON FEST is a new LGBTQ+ Festival, hosted by Hope Mill Theatre, in collaboration with Superbia (at Manchester Pride) and Mother’s Ruin. See the full list of events.
