TURN ON FEST: An Audience with David Hoyle
“The greatest living performer” – Justin Vivian Bond
“Raw, sometimes frightening, but thrilling in his look-no-hands recklessness.” – The Guardian
“Bold and unique, electrifying and disarmingly humane” – Time Out
For decades David Hoyle has been at the forefront of true queer avant-garde performance.
A fireball of the cabaret apocalypse, the avant-guardian, all singing, all raging wonder. David is post drag, post gender and impossible to beat.
As relevant as he ever was, David took home both the ‘ICON’ and ‘ORIGINALITY’ Awards at this year’s QX Cabaret Awards.
From Queer Up North and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, to television and film, from Paradise Factory to international tours, using cabaret, art, music and his own unique stage personae, David has had a profound impact on the shape of performance and on generations of artists behind him.
At TURN ON Festival we present a rare opportunity to see David off stage, in person and entirely himself. At this live in conversation event we will look back over David’s career, at the politics he has lived and railed against, his influences, his personal journeys, and the shape of our lives today through his inimitable vision.
TURN ON FEST is a new LGBTQ+ Festival, hosted by Hope Mill Theatre, in collaboration with Superbia (at Manchester Pride) and Mother’s Ruin. See the full list of events.
