Abi Roberts in ‘ANGLICHANKA’
ANGLICHANKA means Englishwoman in Russian and this is a brand new stand-up comedy show about Abi Robert’s time living in the former Soviet Union in the 1990s. It’s based around her experiences of learning Russian, studying opera at the Moscow Conservatoire, a failed career as a Cossack dancer, dealing with minus 20 temperatures, the vagaries of the Russian plumbing and toilet system (that requires matches and sawdust) and learning how to match Russians drink for drink. Expect diary excerpts, bits in Russian and Abi’s various exploits whilst surviving Russian winters on hard core vodka. Abi returned to Moscow this year to see how the country has changed and what we need to know about Modern Russia, Putin and the country described once as “a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma”.
