Time Flies When You’re Having Fun!

I sat down to write this blog a few days ago but didn’t have chance to publish it before the awful events that took place in Manchester on Monday 22nd May. Our thoughts are with all of the people and families that were affected by the attack; those who have lost loved ones and those who are still receiving treatment. We are extremely proud to be part of a City that has showed such a strong sense of community and love and hope to be so for many years to come.  Where on earth does the year go? One minute we’re all returning from a well-deserved Christmas break, ready and raring to go for the year ahead, and next thing you know it’s the middle of May and we’re already halfway through our 2017 season. Time flies when you’re having fun! The majority of early 2017 for us was do

A Year at Hope Mill Theatre

‘Are you excited?! It’s the last day before Christmas!’ We’ve still got three days of shows left so I was a bit perplexed as to why this was the first thing Joe said to me when I came into work today. But it did make me think that maybe it would be a good idea to sit down and reflect upon the past year. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Lucy, and I'm the Venue Manager here at Hope Mill Theatre. I first met Will and Joe two years ago when they were both performers still living and working in London. We’re now celebrating our third Christmas together (cute) and they’ve gone from first time Panto producers to owners of their own theatrical empire (well, it’s not quite an empire yet but it will be once they’ve had their way!) Last year, I received an email from Wi

A Mid-Year Reflection

It’s usually traditional to do a ‘let’s look back at the past year’ blog post on New Year’s morning, when you’re surrounded by the remnants of last night’s party and full of the kind of optimism that only the clock striking midnight on the 31st seems to give you. But we here at Hope Mill Theatre are anything but traditional so we’re throwing convention out the window and doing a reflective blog in August. Wild, we know. Probably one of the biggest things to happen here at the theatre over the past few months was the musical, ‘Parade’ - our first in house production, co-produced with Aria Entertainment and James Baker Productions. We couldn’t have asked for anyone better to produce with; both Katy and James were so supportive throughout the whole process and we’re

Weddings at Hope Mill Theatre

In January 2016 Hope Mill Theatre hosted its first ever wedding, and what an incredible day it was! Chris and Helen Monks were the lucky couple who got hitched at Manchester Town Hall and then held their evening reception in our space. Organised by our in-house wedding and event planner Stefanie Elrick from Alternative Weddings Mcr we had an industrial chic atmosphere that was a romantic as it was Mancunian. Read her blog and see pics from this very special day here. 2016 and 2017 is already full of wedding bookings and we look forward to welcoming Ceilidh bands, Samba bands, the Disco Shed DJ’s, Art Battle Manchester’s founders and much much more. Watch this space!

OUR FIRST EVER BLOG POST

We can’t believe it’s been 5months since Hope Mill Theatre opened its doors, it’s just too incredible to believe. Before we moved into our Grade II listed building Hope Mill was a cold, empty warehouse with nothing inside but a bar (and a family of pigeons) and in bad need of TLC.   We came, armed with paint brushes, dusters, screw drivers and ornaments and lovingly transformed the space into a cosy café, bar, fringe theatre and events space. We wanted to create a creatively minded venue for the good people of Manchester and support upcoming artists and theatre makers, and guess what, WE DID IT! But there’s still a long way to go. The time has flown and yet with so many incredible shows, events and weddings already under our belt those first few days seem like a life
